The Assistant HR Manager supports the COO and Operations Manager in delivering effective human resource services in the Cape Town Research Office and across the global organization. This role is responsible for assisting with HR operations, employee relations, recruitment, compliance, and performance management, ensuring alignment with company policies and labour legislation.

 

Job requirements

Key Responsibilities

  1. HR Operations & Administration

  • Support the implementation of HR policies and procedures

  • Maintain accurate employee records in line with POPIA requirements

  • Oversee HR documentation, contracts, and onboarding processes

  • Assist in payroll coordination and benefits administration

2. Recruitment & Talent Management

  • Assist in end-to-end recruitment processes (advertising, screening, interviewing)

  • Coordinate onboarding and induction programs

  • Support talent development and succession planning initiatives

3. Employee Relations

  • Act as a point of contact for employee queries and concerns

  • Assist in handling disciplinary processes, grievances, and conflict resolution

  • Ensure fair and consistent application of company policies

4. Performance Management

  • Support performance appraisal processes

  • Assist managers with performance improvement plans (PIPs)

  • Track and report on employee performance metrics

5. Compliance & Labour Law

  • Ensure compliance with South African labour legislation (BCEA, LRA, EE Act, Skills Development Act)

  • Assist with employment equity reporting and audits

  • Support B-BBEE and Skills Development initiatives where applicable

6. Training & Development

  • Identify training needs and coordinate learning initiatives

  • Support skills development reporting (WSP/ATR submissions)

  • Promote a culture of continuous learning

7. HR Reporting & Analytics

  • Compile HR reports and dashboards

  • Track key HR metrics such as turnover, absenteeism, and recruitment stats

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, or related field

  • 2+ years’ experience in an HR generalist role

  • Solid knowledge of South African labour laws and HR best practices

  • Experience with HR systems and payroll coordination
